Since then, Honda's commitment to the United States has grown dramatically. Five manufacturing plants, five research and development centers, and a total employment of over 16,000 people help design, develop, manufacture and distribute American-made Honda products around the world. That includes motorcycles, ATVs, automobiles, engines and power equipment. Through the years, the Marysville plant has been responsible for Elsinores, Gold Wings,® CBXs, Customs, Sabres, Magnas,® Shadows,® Interceptors® and Hurricanes.® Currently, Marysville is producing the Gold Wing, Shadow Spirit, Shadow ACE, Shadow Aero,® Valkyrie and three FourTrax® ATV models.
In total, Honda has invested over $4 billion in its American presence. And on July 26, 1996, the one-millionth motorcycle product rolled off the assembly line at the Marysville motorcycle plant. It was particularly appropriate that a Gold Wing was the one-millionth motorcycle product, as through the years it has accounted for nearly one-third of Marysville's products. Motorcycles like the Gold Wing, made exclusively in America, are a testament to the high quality and exacting engineering standards of Honda in America.
A $30 million manufacturing plant is being constructed near Florence, South Carolina, for the production of 4-wheel all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The new company, Honda of South Carolina Mfg. (HSC), a subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., is scheduled to begin in the fall of 1998 with 300 associates and an annual production capacity of 100,000 units. At full production, HSC will employ 600 associates. It's all part of the relentless pursuit of quality, the cornerstone of Honda's reputation. That reputation is hard-earned, and must be guarded, and tested, every day.
